Dane C. Nelson

Dane C. Nelson is the newest Associate at the firm of Nelson & Nelson, Attorneys at Law, P.C. Dane is the youngest son of Bob, nephew of Dave, and brother to Reed.

Dane grew up in Mascoutah, IL and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in 2013 from the University of Illinois in Integrative Biology with minors in Business and Chemistry. During his undergraduate studies, he supported the Champaign Urbana community by donating his time to a varying range of causes supporting social wellness including the Eastern Illinois Foodbank, Champaign County Humane Society, and Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge. Dane also played rugby for the U of I Men’s Rugby Club and Flatlanders’ Rugby Club. He also made the Dean’s List and was named a James Scholar. In his time after undergrad, he worked in sustainable agriculture, including co-founding a black currant research farm.

Dane was awarded his Juris Doctorate in 2019 by St. Louis University School of Law. He graduated Cum Laude and made the Dean’s List. While attending law school, Dane spent summers working for the U.S Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois and St. Clair County Illinois Public Defender’s Office. These internships allowed him to see both sides of the legal coin. He gained invaluable insight and experience working closely with prosecutors and public defenders. Notably, he drafted a post-conviction relief motion and a response to a post-conviction relief motion. He was active in the SLU Law community serving as Student Bar Association Student of the Year, Black Law Student’s Association Member (law school student body), President of Student Bar Association, Finance Committee Chair, and Philanthropy Committee, Alpha Sigma Nu Member, Environmental Law Society Vice President, Street Law Prep Coordinator, Introduction to Legal Studies Teaching Fellow, Phi Alpha Delta Trial Team and Society of Scholars Member, and Theodore McMillan Inns of Court Graduate. Dane’s personal and professional goals are aligned and aimed at protecting and restoring the rights of the people.

Dane provides general practice for the firm including Workers’ Compensation and Litigation.
